Post Raw Recap - 2/9/09
Well Raw really wasn't as great of a show as it looked like it was going to be...

Ric Flair's return wasn't as lavish and spectacular as i thought it was, and it was quite a site to see him upstaged promo wise by Jericho. It almost looked like what Chris said really effected Flair as his facial expression changed drastically, and when he left the ring he didn't look quite as enthused about his appearance.

The Women's match was actually pretty good despite a few slip ups, The Beth and Melina feud is really getting interesting espeacially with the added element of having Rosa at ringside...

Cryme Tyme vs Legacy was a great classic style tag match in my opinion, you had all the classic spots with the fast action after the tag in and then the more powerhouse wrestler weakening the opponent, also many nice reversals...and damn Cody had quite a impressive finisher in "Cross-Rhodes"

At around this time though i'm getting sick of so many team matches on RAW? i mean what the hell? the last couple of the weeks has been the same, its like there trying to fit in as many stars as possible.

The six man was ok and continued to show the connection between Kane and Knox as a team, and there good feud with Rey and Kofi..

Shawn vs Mark...yawn....it was short and just not a great match but i must say JBL can really cut a nice promo, it's about the only interesting thing about there feud.

Another good but not great match between Punk and Regal, who else is thinking that there has got to be a stipulation added to there next match to change it up a little.... perhaps a submission match?

Taker vs Orton was a good main event, but Shane rescuing him just made Taker lose so much respect i think... but nonetheless it was nice to see Shane do the coast to coast again. but.... its not gonna get me to buy the PPV.

I'll be honest.

I watched the opening of the show. However, JUST after the Flair-Jericho angle, I found videos of the new Legends of WrestleMania game, and my interest in RAW dipped down to 0.

It looks like it will be an AMAZING frik GAME, btw.

You can tell they're scrambling to replace Rourke as Mania material, as Flair's promo was nothing overly special. Was there anyone who was surprised to see Flair punch Jericho? Oh, and I laughed very loudly when Flair removed his jacket, proving Al right with the evidence of profuse sweating. ;)

Stephanie will join Legacy. Orton's promo, directed at her and showing how he was decimating her family, proved it to me. She's using him to take out any competition to her role as GM. Mark my words.

The Orton/Undertaker match was decent.

All other matches were substandard this week. The HBK/Mark Henry match may honestly be the worst worked match I've ever seen Shawn Michaels perform. The 6-man tag was boring, although I marked out for that amazing Code Breaker in midair on Kofi. I don't bother even watching when Cryme Tyme are in the ring. Women's tag matches are rarely good, and this was no exception. Regal and Punk had an okay match, but nothing memorable.

Speaking of the 6-man tag, is it just me, or is the RAW Chamber match just not exciting at all? Mike Knox? ooookay. Anyone think Kofi will become World Champion? Kane? Rey Mysterio seems to be firmly stuck in midcard status. That leaves Jericho, and it's obvious he has a Mania match involving The Wrestler in some way, whether it's Flair or Rourke, so he can't win. That leaves only Super Cena.

HBK vs JBL has two options. JBL wins, and the stipulations would therefore indicate the angle will be around a VERY long time. HBK wins, and they take an angle they invested a great deal of TV time in, and have it blown off on one of the least important PPV's of the year. Horrible payoff for anyone who may have been interested in this.

The Smackdown Chamber match impresses me. While I don't believe for one second Big Show will win, at least he's a credible contender. I doubt Kozlov will be pushed as the champ either, but he is also a credible contender right now. Edge, Triple H, Jeff Hardy, and Undertaker? I can picture Matt costing Jeff a shot, and Big Show and Taker essentially eliminating each other to set up Mania, but really, any of those four are in the title hunt and could believably win. There is somewhat of an unknown factor in this one, as opposed to Super Cena being the obvious winner for RAW.

And why have TWO Chamber matches in one night each year? Dumb.

Ian

Yeah, I agree. I thought it would be Vince, but it is now almost certainly Steph.

Why do you let your biases cause you to miss out on some damn fine tag team wrestling. Regardless of gimmick, these guys are quickly proving to me that they are the most underrated guys on the entire roster.

And luckily, no one is interested in that angle. Anywhere.

The show was pretty boring. I liked how Chris Jericho helped Ric Flair with his script on wanting to thank the fans. Nothing else really stood out to me, other than the Code Breaker on Kofi Kingston looked very poorly executed to me. Replays show almost no connection.

Ian's right. Stephanie is joining the Legacy, giving us a crappy end to a potentially great stable that could have been good. Orton will lose his edge as uber cool heel as Stephanie becomes the missing link to Orton's and Priceless' success. I'm sure they will reason away Legacy barreling Steph into the wall last week as Orton just "trying to knock some sense" into Steph  . This whole Legacy stable started with so much potential, but they have saddled what some people called the 4 Horsemen of today into anoth vehicle for a McMahon main angle push. BTW, who do you think Steph was talking to on the phone? I say HHH or her mother.

Undertaker getting the save from Shane was a joke. Shane's punches still lack integrity. He should have spent more time working the ring rust off before this. He shouldn't go coast to coast anymore, because it almost made an emergency landing in Boise, ID.

In all, a bland go home show.

It's not just me. JTG has some fancy moves, but he botches as often as he connects. And Shad, well, here's the quote from my link.

Quote:
Cryme Tyme member Shad Gaspard is said to be the on bubble, which could affect JTG's standing in the company if the company doesn't want to push him as a singles wrestler. Gaspard was originally slated to participate in the Royal Rumble match a few weeks ago, but officials pulled him as a message to improve.

John Laurinaitis, WWE's Senior Vice President of Talent Relations, recently had a face-to-face meeting with Gaspard specifically telling him the company was unhappy with his lack of progress. Gaspard has been training at the Florida Championship Wrestling school in between road trips.

Gaspard has always been slow when it comes to picking things up. While he's actually improved greatly, it is because he started out so slowly that he's now only below average. This is one of the reasons why he is never used in singles matches and his ring time is generally kept short in tag matches with JTG doing most of the work. Had it not been for the Cryme Tyme gimmick, it is unknown if Gaspard would have been called up to the main roster in the first place.

He has a nice finisher, but looks like an oaf whenever else he's in the ring.

Ian
